The longest journey starts with a single step.
It has become an 'in' thing to do for many students nowadays - travelling for a period of time (long or short) after graduation. It also has been known to many as 'Grad-trip'. Many of us undergrads (or now fresh grads) have been planning such trips as either a motivation to see us through the tough final year in university or just a last chance to go enjoy holidays before we step into the working society.Had originally planned to roam the wilds of Australia, however that plan went up in smoke as 2 of my 3 other buddies had other commitments and backed out of the plan. With only 2 persons, a driving trip in the land down under just seems a bit too difficult. Besides, we've both been to Australia hence, naturally it just doesnt seem worth the journey. The idea of backpacking in Europe seems intriguing and achievable, and we settled for that.
To sum up, we had a travelling party of 3, Des, Reiz and myself. The trip was planned to take place from late-May till early June; a duration of 2.5 weeks and spanning 4 countries, starting in Rome, Italy going across western Europe through Switzerland and Germany before ending in Copenhagen, Denmark. The route we took is indicated by the red line on the map. Our preparation work was lotsa internet surfing, booking and air and rail ticket bookings, and I swear that the 15day-consecutive Eurail youth pass a god-sent.
